College of Education and Health Sciences

The College of Education and Health Sciences houses the education, nursing, athletic training, and exercise science programs at Thomas More. Our programs prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and values to serve the people that will be in their care in the future.

College of Education & Health Sciences Programs

Through our liberal arts programs, we help students find their place in the world through service to and leadership of students, patients, athletes, teachers, and others. With hands-on experiences, strong local relationships, and clinical-based learning, students in this college are prepared to meet the needs of their stakeholders both today and tomorrow.

Nursing requires a special blend of scientific knowledge, technological know-how, and compassion. Coursework at Thomas More will strengthen students’ understanding and skills in each of these areas. The goal of Thomas More’s nursing program is to prepare each student to be a generalist with an excellent foundation for graduate school and for serving the healthcare needs of the community.

Exercise Science

The exercise science program prepares students to evaluate health behaviors, identify biomechanical risk factors, and develop a comprehensive health and fitness program for a variety of individuals or groups. The students will have the ability to utilize these skills based on their knowledge obtained through their coursework (i.e. exercise physiology, kinesiology, and biomechanics).

Thomas More’s legacy is in training and developing the best teachers possible for the K-12 community. Thomas More’s Department of Education incorporates the teacher competencies found in the national standards for teacher education (CAEP), state standards (Kentucky Teacher Preparation Standards), and the Danielson Framework to develop teachers who can demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions required to facilitate learning for all students in a diverse and global society. Next-generation students require next-generation teachers. Embedded in each education course at both the graduate and undergraduate level are the critical foundations necessary to become teacher leaders in the 21st-century classroom.

Exercise & Health Strategies

The focus of the exercise and health strategies major is to prepare professionals who are ready to improve health through exercise and increased activity. Thomas More’s graduates will be able to help individuals, teams, and communities because of the unique multidisciplinary approach of this program.
