Dr. David A. Armstrong, J.D.

President of Thomas More College (2013-2018)

Before becoming president at Thomas More, Dr. Armstrong held multiple leadership roles in higher education, including at Notre Dame College (South Euclid, Ohio) as general counsel, dean of undergraduate admissions, dean of enrollment, and VP of development. He was also recognized nationally as a speaker on higher education law and Title IX, and has experience in enrollment, development, athletics, and strategic planning. 

Beginning his presidency on July 1, 2013, Dr. Armstrong focused on strengthening student success, advancing the College’s Catholic mission, expanding donor engagement, and promoting enrollment growth and organizational renewal. His administration established the Thomas More Success Center through an initial $4 million gift that was later matched to $8 million, representing the largest philanthropic commitment in the institution’s history at the time. Under his leadership, Thomas More College earned national recognition for educational value, ranking first in Kentucky for return on investment from 2015 to 2017 and first in the Greater Cincinnati region from 2015 to 2016, according to PayScale.

Dr. Armstrong’s leadership emphasized mission-driven growth, student engagement, academic support, and the integration of faith, service, and scholarship. He believed that small, faith-based colleges must not only survive but thrive by being innovative, accessible, and values-oriented. Dr. Armstrong’s presidency strengthened Thomas More College through expanded student support services, record-setting philanthropic investment, and a renewed focus on institutional growth and mission. His leadership enhanced the College’s visibility, fostered stronger relationships with alumni and donors, and advanced initiatives that reinforced its Catholic liberal arts identity. By investing in student success and organizational development, he helped position the institution for continued academic expansion and its eventual transition to university status. The Thomas More Success Center remains one of the enduring hallmarks of his administration, reflecting his commitment to student achievement and holistic support.
