The Saints Community Standards outlines a culture of community and accountability that we strive to create and maintain with our students which is directly aligned to our mission and values of Thomas More University. There are five community commitments in which we encourage our students to live by – individual worth, personal integrity, critical thinking, self-control, and community responsibility. The students of our community will be expected to uphold and portray these characteristics in all aspects of their life while enrolled at Thomas More University. Within the actual document, you will find a definition for each of these commitments, as well as a list of ways in which they inform and provide a foundation for holding students accountable to our expectations.
The Community Standards document was revised to be aspirational in nature, rather than simply a list of bad behaviors and consequences. The governing policies will no longer exist simply to be reactive to inappropriate behavior, but to empower students to be responsible, respectful citizens within their living and learning environment while recognizing their actions and behaviors can have a greater impact on everyone within the TMU community. In other words, our success in achieving our TMU mission and vision is highly dependent on the quality of the community we create.
In grounding our policies in values we demonstrate to our students and community-at-large that Thomas More University is a place that works (inside and outside the classroom) to develop and educate students for their whole lives. These policies will assist students in understanding what is expected of them and to assist the community at large in operating more smoothly, effectively, and safely.
