Basic Purpose

This position is for the Assistant Director & Strategic Learning Specialist at Thomas More University. The ILD Assistant Director provides direct support for the staff and students in the ILD, which is the comprehensive support services designed for students with learning disabilities. The ILD assistant director will work under minimal supervision and reports to the ILD director.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities

Recruitment:

Publicize the ILD

·         Assists in promoting the department including updating ILD website and brochures, distributing information about the program by mail and electronically, and compiling distribution lists for program contacts

·         Assists ILD Director with special events

·         Actively market the ILD through a variety of venues

Admissions

·         Provides support to ILD Director in recruitment, screening, admissions, and orientation of incoming students

·         Follows up on requests from parents and other contacts for more information and assists in the application process.

·         Maintains contact records

Programmatic Implementation

·         Maintains a strong working knowledge of the ILD policies and procedures and makes recommendations as appropriate

·         Serves as a contact for the department, answering inquiries as appropriate and directing others to the ILD Director

·         Facilitates meetings involving students, families, ILD staff, and outside agencies

·         Assists with office management, calendar oversight, filing and electronic conversion of documents, office ordering, and facilities requests

Staff Management

·         Recruits, trains, and manages student workers hired by the ILD

·         Coordinates scheduling of tutors

·         Assists with payroll approval for student workers and part-time tutors

·         Coordinates and participates in training of staff to support their success

·         Maintains and disseminates information on resources available to tutors in the ILD

Student Development and Support

·         Provide direct student support as a Strategic Learning Specialist including but not limited to executive function support, student scheduling, academic monitoring, coordination of accommodation, self-advocacy training and support, and report maintenance

·         Maintain and disseminate information on resources available to ILD students

·         Maintain records of student academic needs and assist ILD Director in developing individualized learning plans

·         Monitor student participation in the ILD

·         Facilitates students training and engagement with assistive technology and alternative format materials

·         Coordinate acquisition of alternative format materials needed by students

·         Consult with other campus departments regarding the needs of students

·         Maintain confidentiality of matters relating to students with an understanding of FERPA and other appropriate policies

·         Stay current on best practices in disability services and special needs accommodations

Reporting

·         Collects and reports data needed for program review and evaluation

·         Assists in the preparation of reports and grant applications

Other appropriate duties as assigned by the ILD Director

 

Education, Specialized and/or Technical Knowledge Requirements

·         Required: Bachelor’s Degree   Preferred: Master’s Degree in a relevant subject field

·         Experience working with students with learning differences and diverse populations

·         Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn FERPA and HIPPA laws governing confidential information

·         Knowledge of relevant technology including Microsoft Office applications, Canvas, and willingness to learn new software helpful to serving students with learning differences
