Commencement Letter from President Joseph Chillo

Dear University community,

As we continue to address how best to handle our May 2020 Commencement, our main priority has been and continues to be the protection and well-being of our students, faculty, staff, and the community. After reviewing a number of options and the best one that recognizes the significance of this event in the lives of our students and their families, Thomas More University will celebrate Commencement 2020 on Friday, August 14, for both undergraduate and graduate students. We will be sending out additional details in the coming weeks, and it will be important that students continue to check their Thomas More email account over the summer.

Given the uncertain circumstances, we made this decision with our graduating students and their families in mind. We wanted to ensure that we would be able to celebrate them on campus as they reach this incredible milestone in their lives. Preparing our students for Commencement is the most important work that we – as faculty and staff – due during their time at the University.

Please know that I am appreciative of you and proud of the work that you are doing during this time. You have demonstrated a strong spirit of adaptability, and I am confident that this experience will serve you well in your careers and personal lives. This decision was not one we took lightly. Thank you for understanding and helping us ensure the safety and well-being of everyone within our community. I look forward to celebrating our graduating undergraduate and graduate students and all their many accomplishments on August 14.

Continue to be safe and well.

Best regards,

President Chillo
