Research
Research is at the heart of the River Station.
The Ohio River and it's surrounds provide a working laboratory
that spans scientific categories.
Since our beginnings in 1971, Thomas More College
has conducted a variety of field research studies for private
and public corporations, institutions and agencies.
Over the years, hundreds of former and
current Thomas More students have assisted College faculty members serving as principal researchers on these studies. Our studies encompass microbiology, water chemistry, thermal plume discharge, phytoplankton and zooplankton surveys, adult
fish surveys using gillnets, hoopnets, seines, and shocking and biotoxicity studies of ashpond effluents.
Thomas More has expanded its use of the River Station by
working with the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission
(ORSANCO) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
for both
research and teaching.
Cincinnati-based and regional power provider
Cinergy Corporation is among a regular partner in our research
projects.
