Completed undergraduate degree with a minimum of 2.7 GPA in content area and cumulative.
If a 2.7 GPA has not been earned, then a 1200 combined GRE score must be earned for
unconditional admission by the end of the first term of study. GRE is required for candidates with a
GPA’s between 2.5 – 2.69.
Two completed Recommendation Forms:
Principal and Subject Area Professor if you are currently teaching
Subject Area Professor and one additional reference (your choice) if you are not teaching
Official transcript of undergraduate and/or graduate work
Demonstrated satisfactory performance in an interview that includes discussion of the
materials submitted for admission to the program. The Alternative Certification Committee will evaluate each candidate’s admissions materials to verify that candidates: (1) have the oral and written communications skills necessary for success at the graduate level, (2) demonstrate subject matter competency, and (3) possess the necessary dispositions required for success in the teaching field. Additional course work may be required before unconditional admittance is granted to the program.
Statement from School Principal in support of the teacher who holds a Temporary Provisional
Certificate – including the assignment of a mentor teacher to work with the candidate (Track 1).

Minimum of 3.00 GPA and no incomplete grades
Granting of MA Degree
Successful completion of all coursework
Minimum GPA of 3.00 with no grade less than “C”
Successful completion of Professional Exit Portfolio based on New Teacher Standards
Passing score on the appropriate PRAXIS Principles of Learning and Teaching Test before enrolling
in last MAT course
Application for graduation approved by the Education Faculty and the Registrar
Completion of Exit Interview that includes completion of forms required for initial certificate
