Several departments at Thomas More College offer scholarships to qualified students pursuing a particular field of study. Students should contact the respective departments to learn more about the scope of the scholarships available and for scholarship application deadlines. All departmental scholarship recipients must first be officially accepted for admission to the College.

Art

Fine Art Grant
$500 - $1,000, amount varies Candidates must plan to major in Art. Submit a letter of recommendation from an art educator and a portfolio of no fewer than 10 items of the student’s own artwork. Portfolios are due March 19 and 20 from 3-6 pm. Pick up dates are March 25 and 26 3-6 pm.

Art

Darrell Brothers Memorial Art Scholarship
$500 - $1,000, amount varies Candidates must plan to major in Art and maintain satisfactory progress. Submit a letter of recommendation from an art educator and a written letter by the applicant stating goals and aspirations as a student in the Art Department at Thomas More College.

Students should also submit a portfolio of no fewer than 10 items of the student’s own artwork. Works submitted need not be matted but should be presented in a study portfolio. Sketchbooks may be included. Slides and color photographs may be submitted for three-dimensional works. Identify each with the student’s name, the medium and dimensions. An interview may be required.

Portfolios are due March 19 and 20 from 3-6 pm. Pick up dates are March 25 and 26 3-6 pm. For more information, contact Dr. Rebecca Bilbo, Art Department, (859) 344-3419.

This scholarship is named in honor of the late Darrell Brothers who dedicated over 25 years to the Thomas More Art Department. The candidate for this award must demonstrate dedication to the visual arts.

Medical Laboratory Science
$500 - $1,000, renewable, amounts vary Candidates must be a Medical Laboratory Science major with an ACT of 25 or higher or an SAT of 1130 or higher and maintain satisfactory progress in the Medical Laboratory Science curriculum. Submit a letter of recommendation from a current biology teacher and a one-page letter in which the student describes his/her interest in Medical Laboratory Science or Biology, related extracurricular activities, and how majoring in Medical Laboratory Science is related to the student’s long-term goals.

Communication/Drama

Communication Department Scholarship

$1,000 - 2,000, renewable Entering freshman; 3.0 GPA; 20 ACT (950 SAT) Complete Departmental Scholarship Application by February 1.
Computer Information Systems Full-tuition scholarship Must plan to major in Computer and Information Science with an ACT of 23 or higher or an SAT of 1060 or higher and a high school GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in a college prep curriculum. Submit one letter of recommendation from a Computer Information Systems math teacher, computer technology coordinator, or guidance counselor and a one page single spaced letter in which the student describes his/her interest in applying for the scholarship, what it is about computers that interests them, what value is added to a Computer Information Systems degree by having work related experience, a description of any computer experience they may have, either formal or self taught, and any creative or original computer activities in which they have participated.

Students who wish to be considered for this award should submit an Application for Admission and Scholarship by March 15 to Dr. Jim Swartz, Computer Information Systems Department, at (859) 344-3379.
Drama

Drama Award
$500 to $1,000 - amounts vary and are renewable for four years. Applicants must plan to major in Theatre and maintain satisfactory progress. Candidates must submit a letter of recommendation from their high school drama coach or teacher and a resume of theatrical experience (performance and technical credits). Letters and resumes are due February 20.

Auditions/Interviews will be held on February 28 and March 6 in the Thomas More College theatre. Candidates should prepare a 1 – 3 minute monologue, with modern realism preferred. For more information, contact Dr. Jim Nelson, Theatre Department, at (859) 344-3421.
