Saints Defeat Bethany, 8-1

(PARK HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College women's tennis team defeated Bethany College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match today (Saturday, October 3, 2009) at the Notre Dame Academy Tennis Complex in Park Hills, Kentucky.
With the win the Saints improve to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in the PAC. With the loss the Bison fall to 0-11 overall and 0-6 in the PAC.
The Saints swept the three doubles matches as sophomore Lauren Race (Cortland Manor, N.Y./John F. Kennedy Catholic) and freshman Emily Wesselman (Union, Ky./St. Henry) won 8-6 at No. 1, junior Lindsay Burns (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) and freshman Ashley York (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) won 8-3 at No. 2 and junior Brittaney Knapp (Covington, Ky./Covington Latin) and freshman Jamia Stovall (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) won 9-7 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play the Saints won five of the six matches as Race won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1, Burns won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2, Wesselman won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3, Knapp won 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 at No. 5 and freshman Sierra O'Bryan (Edgewood, Ky./Covington Latin) won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.
The Saints return to action on Wednesday (October 7) as they travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to play the College of Mount St. Joseph. The match will begin at 4 p.m. at the Mount Tennis Courts.
