TMC drops Two

Freshman Lindsey Burns (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) posted the lone victory of the weekend as Thomas More fell to Waynesburg, 6-1 and Geneva, 9-0.

     Burns was victorious in third singles, 7-5, 6-4, before falling in the Geneva match, 6-0, 6-0.

    Senior Alma Murga (Florence/Boone County) fell 4-6, 6-1, 10-5, and 6-0, 6-0; junior Monica Pharo (Cincinnati, OH/Mt. Notre Dame) had her match against Waynesburg suspended, then fell 6-1, 6-1; freshman Brittaney Knapp (Covington/Covington Latin) was winning before her WU match was suspended, then fell 6-4, 7-6 (7-4); freshman Kelly Fuqua (Lawrenceburg/Anderson County) fell, 6-2, 6-2, and 6-1, 6-3; and freshman Winnie Moore (Lawrenceburg/Anderson County) lost, 6-0, 6-0, and 6-0, 6-0.

     In doubles action, Murga/Pharo fell, 8-6 and 8-2; Burns/Fuqua lost, 8-1 and 8-0; and Moore/Knapp lost, 8-2 and 8-1.

Saints swept by Midway

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS - For the second time this season, the Thomas More tennis team fell to Midway, 9-0, in non-conference action.

     Senior Alma Murga (Florence/Boone County) fell, 6-0, 6-0; junior Monica Pharo (Cincinnati, OH/Mt. Notre Dame) lost, 6-3, 6-1; freshman Lindsey Burns (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision; freshman Jackie Phillippo (Edgewood/Notre Dame Academy) lost, 6-1, 6-0; freshman Brittaney Knapp (Covington/Covington Latin) fell, 6-1, 6-4; and freshman Kelly Fuqua (Lawrenceburg/Anderson County) fell, 7-5, 6-2.

     In doubles action, Murga/Pharo fell 8-4; Burns/Fuqua lost, 8-6; and Phillippo/Knapp fell, 8-0.

     Thomas More will return to Presidents' Athletic Conference action Friday, traveling to Waynesburg.

Knapp wins as Saints fall

CINCINNATI, OH - Freshman Brittaney Knapp (Covington/Covington Latin) earned the only win for Thomas More as the Saints fell to Mount St. Joseph Tuesday.

     Knapp was victorious in fourth singles, 7-5, 6-3. Senior Alma Murga (Florence/Boone County) had to withdraw in first singles; junior Monica Pharo (Cincinnati, OH/Mt. Notre Dame) fell, 6-1, 6-1; freshman Lindsey Burns (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) lost, 6-1, 6-3; freshman Kelly Fuqua (Lawrenceburg/Anderson County) fell, 6-0, 6-0; and freshman Winnie Moore (Lawrenceburg/Anderson County) lost, 6-1, 6-0.

     In doubles action, Murga/Pharo fell, 8-5; Burns/Fuqua dropped a 8-2 decision; and Knapp/Moore fell, 8-2.

     The Saints will return to action Wednesday, when they host Midway.

Grove City beats TMC

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS - A youthful Thomas More team fell to the reigning Presidents' Athletic Conference champion Grove City Saturday, 9-0, at Northern Kentucky University.

     Senior Alma Murga (Florence/Boone County) fell, 6-1, 6-0; junior Monica Pharo (Cincinnati, OH/Mt. Notre Dame) lost 6-3, 6-1; freshman Lindsey Burns (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) lost, 6-1, 6-0; freshman Jackie Phillippo (Edgewood/Notre Dame Academy) lost, 6-0, 6-0; freshman Brittany Knapp (Covington/Covington Latin) fell, 6-1, 6-2; and freshman Kelly Fuqua (Lawrenceburg/Anderson County) fell, 6-0, 6-0.

     In doubles action, Murga/Pharo fell, 8-4; Burns/Phillippo lost, 8-0; and Knapp/Fuqua fell, 8-2.

     Thomas More returns to the court Tuesday in non-conference action at Mount St. Joseph.

TMC splits Tri-Match

BEREA - Thomas More earned a split in the Berea Tri-Match, falling to Midway, 9-0, and beating host-Berea, 6-3.

     In the win over Berea, senior Alma Murga (Florence/Boone County) won, 8-1; junior Monica Pharo (Cincinnati, OH/Mt. Notre Dame) won, 8-0; freshmen Lindsey Burns (Cincinnati, OH/Seton), Brittaney Knapp (Covington/Covington Latin) and Kelly Fuqua (Lawrenceburg/Anderson County) all won by identical 8-2 scores; and freshman Winnie Moore (Lawrenceburg/Anderson County) lost 8-0.

     In doubles action, Murga/Pharo fell, 8-4; Burns/Fuqua won, 8-3; and Knapp/Moore lost, 8-4.

     In the Midway match, Murga lost, 8-0; Burns fell, 8-5; Knapp lost, 8-1; Fuqua and Moore, both lost 8-0. In doubles, Murga/Pharo fell, 8-4; Burns/Fuqua lost, 8-2; and Moore/Knapp lost, 8-2.

    Thomas More (2-7 overall) will host perennial Presidents' Athletic Conference champion Grove City Saturday.

Saints blanked by Hanover

HANOVER, IN - Thomas More was shutout by Hanover in non-conference action Wednesday, 9-0.

     Senior Alma Murga (Florence/Boone County) fell, 6-1, 6-0; junior Monica Pharo (Cincinnati, OH/Mt. Notre Dame) lost, 6-0, 6-0; freshman Lindsey Burns (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) fell, 6-0, 6-2; freshman Brittaney Knapp (Covington/Covington Latin) lost, 6-1, 6-2; freshman Kelly Fuqua (Lawrenceburg/Anderson County) dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision; and freshman Winnie Moore (Lawrenceburg/Anderson County) retired, 6-1, 2-5.

     In doubles action, Murga/Pharo lost, 8-3; Burns/Knapp fell, 8-0; and Fuqua/Moore lost, 8-5.

     Thomas More (1-6) will compete in the Berea Tri-match Saturday.

Burns complete Unbeaten Weekend

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS - Freshman Lindsey Burns (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) completed an unbeaten weekend, winning in third singles, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). However, Thomas More fell to Chatham 5-4 Sunday in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action.

     Burns went 3-0 in singles competition, all against PAC opponents. The three wins were the first in her collegiate career.

     Freshmen Jackie Philippo (Edgewood/Notre Dame Academy) and Brittaney Knapp (Covington/Covington Latin) posted their first collegiate wins Sunday. Philippo won 6-4, 6-4 in fourth singles, while Knapp was victorious in fifth singles, 6-1, 6-0. The other Thomas More victory came as senior Alma Murga (Florence/Boone County) and junior Monica Pharo (Cincinnati, OH/Mt. NotreDame Academy) posted a 8-6 win in first doubles.

     Murga fell in first singles, 6-2, 6-2; Pharo lost in second singles, 6-4, 6-1; and freshman Kelly Fuqua (Lawrenceburg/Anderson County) lost in sixth singles, 6-0, 6-0. In doubles action, Burns/Philippo lost 9-7, while Knapp/Fuqua fell, 8-6.

     Thomas More (1-5 overall, 1-3 PAC) will return to the courts Wednesday at Hanover.

Saints Split

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS - Junior Monica Pharo (Cincinnati, OH/Mt. Notre Dame) went 4-0 Saturday as Thomas More split two Presidents' Athletic Conference matches. Thomas More's 5-4 win over Bethany was the Saints' first of the season.

     In the win over the Bison, senior Alma Murga (Florence/Boone County) won in first singles, 6-0, 6-1; Pharo was victorious, 6-1, 6-3, in second singles; freshman Lindsey Burns (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) won 6-2, 6-3; freshman Brittaney Knapp (Covington/Covington Latin) lost 6-1, 3-6 (3-7); junior Katie Trauth (Taylor Mill/Scott) fell, 6-1, 6-0; and freshman Kelly Fuqua (Lawrenceburg/Anderson County) won, 6-1, 6-2.

     In doubles action, Murga/Pharo won 8-4; Burns/Trauth lost, 8-6; and Knapp/Fuqua fell, 8-6.

     Thomas More opened Saturday with 6-3 loss to Washington & Jefferson.

     The duo of Murga/Pharo was victorious, 8-1, and Pharo won in second singles, 7-5, 6-1. The other TMC win came in third singles as Burns won, 6-3, 6-1.

     Murga lost, 6-4, 6-1; freshman Jackie Philippo (Edgewood/Notre Dame Academy) fell, 6-3, 6-3; Knapp lost, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3; and Fuqua fell, 6-0, 6-3.

     Burns/Philippo lost 8-6, and Knapp/Fuqua fell, 8-1.

Murga wins in TMC defeat

WILMINGTON, 0H - Senior Alma Murga (Florence/Boone County) posted the only Thomas More victory as the Saints fell to Wilmington Thursday, 8-1.

     Murga, in her first season as TMC's top singles player, won 6-1, 6-1 for her first win of the season.

     In other singles action, junior Monica Pharo (Cincinnati, OH/Mt. Notre Dame) fell, 6-3, 6-3; freshman Lindsey Burns (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) lost, 6-1, 6-0; freshman Jackie Philippo (Edgewood/Notre Dame Academy) dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision; freshman Brittany Knapp (Covington/Covington Latin) fell, 6-0, 6-0; and freshman Winnie Moore (Lawrenceburg/Anderon County) lost, 6-0, 6-0.

     In doubles action, Murga/Pharo fell, 8-1; Burns/Philippo lost, 8-2; and Knapp/Moore dropped a 8-3 decision.

     Thomas More (0-3 overall, 0-1 PAC) will host Washington & Jefferson and Bethany Saturday at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively, on the campus of Northern Kentucky University.

Thomas More falls to SVC

LATROBE, PA - For the second straight match, Thomas More fell in straight sets. The Saints lost to Presidents' Athletic Conference member Saint Vincent in non-conference action Saturday.

     Junior Monica Pharo (Cincinnati, OH/Mt. Notre Dame) and freshman Lindsey Burns (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) lost by identical 6-2, 6-2 scores for the best Thomas More showings. Senior Alma Murga (Florence/Boone County) fell in first singles, 6-0, 6-1; freshman Brittaney Knapp (Covington/Covington Latin) fell 6-1, 6-0 in fourth singles; freshman Kelly Fuqua (Lawrenburg, KY/Anderson County) fell, 6-1, 6-0; and freshman Winnie Moore (Lawrenceburg, KY/Anderson County) lost, 6-2, 6-0.

     In doubles action, Pharo/Murga dropped a 8-1 decision; Knapp/Burns lost, 8-3; and Fuqua/Moore fell, 8-0.

     Thomas More (0-2 overall, 0-1 PAC) returns to the court Thursday for a non-conference road contest with Wilmington.

Saints shutout in Opener

NEW WILMINGTON, PA - Thomas More opened the 2007 campaign by being shutout by Presidents' Athletic Conference-foe Westminster.

      The Saints won eight games in the shutout as freshman Brittaney Knapp (Covington/Covington Latin) secured three of the wins.

     Senior Alma Murga (Florence/Boone County) lost in first singles, 6-0, 6-1; Monica Pharo (Cincinnati, OH/Mt. Notre Dame) fell in second singles, 6-1, 6-0; freshman Lindsey Burns (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) lost to 6-0, 6-2, in third singles; Knapp lost 6-0, 6-3, in fourth singles; freshman Kelly Fuqua (Lawrenceburg, KY/Anderson County) lost 6-0, 6-1; and freshman Winnie Moore (Lawrenceburg, KY/Anderson County) fell in sixth singles, 6-0, 6-0.

     In doubles action, Murga/Pharo fell 9-7; Knapp/Burns lost 8-3; Fuqua/Moore lost 8-1.

     Thomas More (0-1 overall, 0-1 PAC) will return to the courts Saturday in Latrobe, PA for a non-conference match with Saint Vincent.
