Tolliver and Dickman Lead Saints to a 77-72 Win Over Centre

Box Score

(DANVILLE, Ky.) - Freshman guard Chelsea Tolliver (Morning View, Ky./Simon Kenton) scored a team-high 20 points and junior center Nicole Dickman (Park Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) recorded a double-double to lead the Thomas More College women's basketball team to a 77-72 win over Centre College today (Sunday, November 22, 2009) in the Centre Tip-Off Classic in Danville, Kentucky.

With the win the Saints improve to 2-0 on the season and with the loss the Colonels fall to 2-1.

Centre took an early 8-5 lead when Chelsea Benham made a layup with 14:47 to play in the first half.  Thomas More responded with a 10-2 run to take a 15-10 lead when freshman guard Jill Brunsman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) made a three-pointer at the 11:19 mark of the opening half.  The Colonels came right back and used a 13-6 run capped by a three-pointer by Chelsea Goodman to take a 23-21 lead with 7:21 to play in the first half.  The Saints then put together a 6-0 run to retake the lead at 27-23 with 5:13 to play in the opening half when Brunsman made three free-throws.  Centre then closed out the half on a 14-5 run capped by a layup by Maggie Prewitt with six-seconds to play in the first half to lead 37-32 at halftime.

Centre opened the second half on a 10-7 run to extend its lead to 47-39 when Prewitt made a layup with 16:20 to play in the game.  Undaunted, the Saints exploded with a 31-13 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 70-60 when freshman guard Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner) made a three-pointer with only 6:05 to play in the game.  The Colonels cut the lead to 70-66 with 4:43 to play, but it wasn't enough as Thomas More went onto the 77-72 victory.

Dickman finished with 10 points and 15 rebounds for the double-double and joining her and Tolliver in double-figure scoring was sophomore guard Katie Tierney (Villa Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) and Brunsman with 10 rebounds.

The Saints will return to the hardwood on Saturday (November 28) when they host DePauw University at 4 p.m. in the second game of the eighth annual Julie Costello Memorial Classic at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
