(ADA, Ohio) - The Thomas More College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to nationally ranked opponents today (Friday, September 3, 2010) in the season opening Ohio Northern University Invitational at the ONU Sports Center in Ada, Ohio. The Saints fell, 3-2, to both No. 23-ranked Heidelberg University and No. 10-ranked Ohio Northern.

In the first match of the day, the Student Princes won by the score of 21-25, 13-25, 25-22, 25-14 and 15-9. Details of this match weren't made available to the sports information office.

In the second match of the day, the Polar Bears won the score of 25-21, 22-25, 25-15, 21-25 and 15-12. Senior outside hitter Kristine Rust (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) led the Saints' offense with 15 kills. Junior outside hitter Brandi Corbello (Florence, Ky./Boone County) and senior outside hitter Alyssa Carlotta (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) added 12 and 10 kills respectively. Sophomore setter Tori Verville (Edgewood, Ky./Holy Cross) had 27 set assists and junior Michelle Clifford (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) added 15 assists. Defensively, junior defensive specialist Emily Bohman (Yorkshire, Ohio/Versailles) had 32 digs and freshman middle blocker Tyler Deaton (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic) had four blocks.

The Saints will compete in the second and final day of the Ohio Northern Invitational tomorrow and will play Defiance College at 12 p.m. and The College of Wooster at 2 p.m.
