(ERIE, Pa.) - The Thomas More College men's tennis team is in sixth place with eight points after the first day of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships today (Friday, April 23, 2010) at the Pennbriar Athletic Club in Erie, Pennsylvania.

In first singles play, sophomore Andrew Hetzer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) won 6-1, 6-2 in the first round, but fell, 6-0, 6-1 in the second round and will play in the third place match tomorrow (April 24).  At second singles, junior Evan Bryan (Petersburg, Ky./Villa Madonna) won his first round match 6-2, 6-4, but fell 6-0, 6-0 in the second round and will play in the third place match tomorrow.  At third singles, senior Johnny Bergman (Falmouth, Ky./Pendleton County) fell in the first round by the score of 6-3, 4-6, 10-7.  In fourth singles play, freshman Tony Koehling (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) fell 6-3, 6-0 in the first round.  At fifth singles, freshman Shane Campbell (Walton, Ky./Walton-Verona) fell 7-5, 2-6, 10-4 in the first round.  At sixth singles, sophomore Ricky Barria (Erlanger, Ky./Dixie Heights) won his first round match 7-5, 6-2, but fell 6-0, 6-1 in the second round and will play in the third place match tomorrow.

In doubles play, Hetzer and Bryan won 8-5 in the first round, but fell, 8-3, in the second round and will play in the third place match of first doubles tomorrow.  In second doubles Bergman and freshman Gabe Measner (Cold Spring, Ky./Calvary Christian) fell, 8-2, in the first round and in third doubles Campbell and Koehling fell, 8-4, in the first round.

The Saints return to the Pennbriar tomorrow for the second and final day of the PAC Championships.  The competition gets underway at 8:30 a.m.
