ERIE, PA - Senior Michael Selm (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) avenged his lone loss of the season, and went on to earn Presidents' Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors.
Selm defeated Grove City's John Moyer in a thrilling three-set match, 6-4, 0-6, 6-4, to win first singles, and keeping the Wolverines from the tennis sweep. Moyer downed Selm last week at Westminster, 1-6, 3-6.
Sophomore Mark Lucas (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) won his third place match, winning sixth singles, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. The duo of Selm and sophomore Ryan Thompson (Flatwoods/Russell) were victorious in their third-place match in first doubles, 8-3. Junior David Sheeley (Fairdale/Fairdale) lost in the consolation match, 6-4, 6-3, to settle for fourth place, while Lucas teamed with freshman Johnny Bergman (Falmouth/Pendleton County) in third doubles to finish fourth after falling in the third-place match, 8-5.

TMC loses Two
NEW WILMINGTON, PA - Senior Michael Selm (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) suffered his only loss of the season, falling 1-6, 3-6, in first singles as TMC fell to Grove City, 9-0. In the other match at the Westminster Tri-match, Thomas More dropped a 5-4 decision to the host Titans.
Selm and freshman Joe Ruzick (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) were the only Saints player to recorded any points as Ruzick lost 3-6, 3-6. The LaSalle duo fell 5-8 in first doubles. Sophomore Ryan Thompson (Flatwoods/Russell), junior David Sheeley (Fairdale/Fairdale), sophomore Mark Lucas (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) and freshman Johnny Bergman (Falmouth/Pendleton County) all lost 0-6, 0-6.
Sheeley/Thompson and Lucas/Bergman dropped 0-8 decisions in doubles.
Selm, Ruzick and Lucas all recorded singles wins during the Westminster match. Selm won, 6-1, 6-0; Ruzick was victorious, 6-2, 6-1 and Lucas picked up a 1-6, 9-7 (7-3), 10-8 win. Selm/Ruzick won 8-2 in first doubles.
Thomas More (3-5), who will be without Ruzick, will finish its season at the PAC tournament.

Selm keeps rolling
LATROBE, PA - Senior Michael Selm (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) remained unbeaten in singles competition - winning in first singles, then teamed with freshman Joe Ruzick (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) in first doubles. Selm accounted for two of the Saints' three wins as Thomas More fell to Saint Vincent, 6-3.
Selm was victorious in singles, 8-6, then won 8-3 in doubles. Sophomore Mark Lucas (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) won in sixth singles, 8-8 (9-7).
Ruzick loss his first singles match of the season, losing 2-8; sophomore Ryan Thompson (Flatwoods/Russell) fell in third singles, 5-8; freshman Johnny Bergman (Falmouth/Pendleton County) fell in fourth singles, 0-8 and junior David Sheeley (Fairdale/Fairdale) lost, 3-8 in fifth singles.
Thompson/Sheeley lost in second doubles, 4-8, and Bergman/Lucas fell, 8-1.

Late Rally sinks Saints
Thomas More dropped three of the last four singles matches in losing for the first time this season, falling to Bethany, 5-4, in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.
Senior Michael Selm (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) and freshman Joe Ruzick (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) remained unbeaten this season. Selm won in the first singles flight, 6-3, 6-0, and Ruzick took second singles by a scored of 6-0, 6-1. The duo teamed to post the first doubles victory, 8-2. Junior David Sheeley (Fairdale/Fairdale) won the only other match, winning in fourth singles, 6-4, 6-2.

TMC takes PAC Opener
Thomas More dropped just three sets in winning its Presidents' Athletic Conference opener, 8-1, over Washington & Jefferson Wednesday at Five Seasons Country Club.
Former LaSalle graduates, senior Michael Selm (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) and Joe Ruzick (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) got the ball rolling with a 8-2 win in first doubles. Sophomore Ryan Thompson (Flatwoods/Russell) and senior Justin Egan (Edgewood/Holy Cross) team for the 8-6 win in second doubles, then the duo of sophomore Mark Lucas (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) and freshman Johnny Bergman (Falmouth/Pendleton County) finished the doubles sweep with a 9-8 (7-4) victory.
Selm put the Saints on the verge of the victory with his 6-4, 6-1 win in first singles, then Ruzick made the lead insurmountable with his 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 win in second singles. In third singles, Thompson was victorious, 6-4, 6-2; Sheeley won in fifth singles, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5); and Lucas picked up the win in sixth singles, 6-0, 6-1.
Thomas More (3-0) will take on PAC-foe Bethany Saturday at Five Seasons.

Saints open Season with Wins
BEREA - Thomas More opened the season with two wins at the Berea Tri-Match, beating host Berea, 5-4, and Central State (OH), 9-0. Thomas More only lost two games in the rout of Central State.
Senior Michael Selm (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) lost just one game in winning his two singles matches, 6-1, 6-0, and 6-0, 6-0, in the first singles flight. Senior Justin Egan (Edgewood/Holy Cross), in third singles, and junior David Sheeley (Fairdale/Fairdale), in fourth singles, both went unbeaten in the season opening tri-match. Egan posted wins 4-6, 6-2, 10-7 and 6-1, 6-0, respectively, while Sheeley won 1-6, 6-2, 10-7 and 6-0, 6-0.
In the Berea match, sophomore Mark Lucas (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) won in fifth singles, 7-5, 6-3. Sophomore Ryan Thompson (Flatwoods/Russell) fell in second singles, 1-6, 6-4, 8-10, while freshman Johnny Bergman (Falmouth/Pendleton County) fell, 3-6, 6-4, 6-10.
The duo of Selm/Sheeley took first doubles, 8-3, while Thompson/Egan was victorious in second doubles, 8-1. Lucas/Bergman fell in third doubles, 4-8.
Against Central State, Thompson won in second singles, 6-1, 6-0. Selm/Sheeley and Thompson/Egan won their respective doubles flights, 8-0. Lucas and Bergman each won their singles and doubles match by forfeit.
Thomas More (2-0) will open Presidents' Athletic Conference action Tuesday with a home match with Washington & Jefferson.

Minor highest finishing Saint
ERIE, PA - Freshman Al Minor (Dayton, OH/Meadowdale) was the highest finishing Saint at the Presidents' Athletic Conference men's tennis championships. Minor, who won twice Friday to advance to Saturday's championship match, finished second after falling in the championship, 6-2, 6-2.
First flight singles' top-seed Michael Selm, who is struggling with an injury, finished third after falling Friday. He rebounded for a win Saturday.
On the season, he defeated ever PAC #1 singles player.
As a team, the Saints finished in fourth place.

Minor sets new standard
Freshman Al Minor (Dayton, OH/Meadowdale) became the first Thomas More tennis player to earn Presidents' Athletic Conference player of the week honors.
Minor was named co-player of the week after going 6-0. He was 3-0 in singles matches, including two wins by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Minor has now won five consecutive singles matches. Minor, who also plays for the Thomas More football team, won all three of his doubles matches as well.
Thomas More finished the regular season at 6-4 and will participate in the PAC tournament on April 21.

Thomas More beats MSJ, falls to Waynesburg
CINCINNATI, OH - Junior Michael Selm (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) and freshman Al Minor (Dayton, OH/Meadowdale) both earned two singles win Sunday as Thomas More went 1-1.
Thomas More lost to Waynesburg 6-3 in its Presidents' Athletic Conference finale, then defeated Mt. St. Joseph, 9-0, in non-conference action.
Selm finished the regular season 5-1 in the PAC after defeating Matt Otis, 6-1, 6-2 in first singles. He added a 6-0, 6-0, first singles win against MSJ.
Minor won his fourth and fifth straight singles matches, winning 6-0, 6-2 in the sixth singles match against Waynesburg and 6-1, 6-1 in fifth singles against MSJ. Minor added two wins in doubles for TMC.
Against Waynesburg, freshman Ryan Thompson (Flatwoods/Russell) fell, 6-1, 6-0; junior Justin Egan (Alexandria/Holy Cross) lost 6-1, 6-0; senior John Burwinkle fell, 6-2, 6-4; and sophomore Terence Toone (Columbus, OH/South) lost 6-0, 6-2.
In doubles, Selm/Burwinkle lost 8-6; Egan/Sheeley lost 8-2 and Thompson/Minor won, 9-7.
In the Mt. St. Joseph match, Thompson was victorious, 6-3, 6-4; Burwinkle won, 6-2, 6-2; Toone won, 6-4, 4-6 (7-1) and Egan won by forfeit. Selm/Burwinkle posted a 8-6 victory, Egan/Sheeley won 8-5 and Thompson/Minor won by forfeit.
Thomas More improves to 6-4 overall and will travel to Wilmington to face the Quakers 4 p.m. April 18.

HAMILTON, OH - Junior Michael Selm (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) and freshman Al Minor (Dayton, OH/Meadowdale) won their respective singles flights 6-0, 6-0 as Thomas More defeated Miami-Hamilton Friday, 9-0.
Freshman Ryan Thompson (Flatwoods/Russell) won in second singles, 6-4, 6-1, while junior Justin Egan (Alexandria/Holy Cross) was victorious in third singles, 6-3, 6-0. Senior John Burwinkle (Cleves, OH/Homeschooled) was a winner in fourth singles, 6-2, 6-2 and sophomore Terence Toone (Columbus, OH/South) won 6-1, 7-5.
In doubles, Selm/Burwinkle won 8-6; Egan/David Sheeley (Fairdale/Fairdale) won 9-8 (12-10) and Toone/Minor won, 8-1.
Thomas More (5-3) will play Waynesburg at Mount St. Joseph 9 a.m. Sunday, then play MSJ at 2 p.m.

Comeback falls short
Needing to win all three doubles matches, the Thomas More Saints came up short falling in a tie break on the third doubles flight as TMC fell to Westminster, 5-4, Friday at Five Seasons.
Junior Michael Selm (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) remained unbeaten winning in first singles, 6-0, 6-0. Then, he teamed with John Burwinkle (Cleves, OH/Homeschooled) to win in first doubles, 8-0.
Freshman Alfred Minor (Dayton, OH/Meadowdale) earned his first collegiate win, posting a straight set victory in sixth singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Freshman Ryan Thompson (Flatwoods/Russell) fell in second singles, 6-2, 2-6, 2-6; junior Justin Egan (Alexandria/Holy Cross) lost in third singles, 1-6, 6-2, 3-6; in fourth singles, Burwinkle lost, 2-6, 6-4, 2-6; and sophomore David Sheeley (Fairdale/Fairdale) lost 2-6, 0-6.
Egan and Sheeley combined for the 9-8 (12-10) victory in second doubles before sophomore Terrence Toone (Columbus, OH/South) and Thompson lost in third doubles, 8-9 (8-10).

Selm won his first single match, 6-3, 6-3, while Burwinkle was victorious in fifth singles, 2-6, 6-2, 7-3. The duo teamed to win first doubles, 8-6.

Tennis kicks off season with win
BEREA - Junior Michael Selm (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) led Thomas More to a season-opening non-conference win Saturday over Berea, 5-4.
Selm won his first singles match 6-0, 6-0, then teamed with senior John Burwinkle (Cleves, OH/Home School) to win first doubles, 8-3.
The match wasn't decided until the duo of sophomore Terence Toone (Columbus, OH/South) and freshman Alfred Minor (Dayton, OH/Meadowdale) claimed third doubles. The tandem won 8-7 (9-7) as the Saints clinched the victory.
Freshman Ryan Thompson (Flatwoods/Russell) won in fourth singles, and Burwinkle added a fifth singles win for Thomas More.
The Saints (1-0) will return to action March 13 with they travel to Danville, KY to face Maryville, TN on the Centre College campus.
