Sheahan earns All-Region

Junior Garry Sheahan (East Castle, Ireland/East Castle) has been named Second Team All-Mid Atlantic Region by the National Soccer Coaches of America and by d3kicks.com.

     Sheahan led the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) in points with 37 and assists with 11 in his first season at Thomas More. He was also third in the PAC with 13 goals. He was the lone player from the conference to earned regional laurels.

     Thomas More finished the season 13-6 overall, 3-3 PAC, and fell in the PAC finals. The Saints' semifinal win was the program's first postseason victory.

Sheahan named Player of the Year

WEXFORD, PA - Junior Garry Sheahan (East Castle, Ireland/East Castle) was named Presidents' Athletic Conference Player of the Year by the conference's coaches.

     He is joined on the first team by freshman Aaron Osborne (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle), while freshman Dan Miller (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) was named to the league's second team. Sophomore John Wallace (Cincinnati, OH/Clark Montessori) and junior Matt Koopman (Pleasant Hill, OH/Newton) picked up honorable mention laurels for the Saints.

     Sheahan lead the conference in points with 37 and assists with 11 in his first season at Thomas More. He was third with 13 goals, while Osborne led the PAC with 15 goals. Osborne was second in the league with 33 points. The duo helped Thomas More lead the Presidents' Athletic Conference with 50 goals.

     Miller was third on the team with 13 points, scoring four goals with five assists, while Wallace added two goals and an assist. Koopman, in his first full collegiate season, was third in the PAC with a GAA of 1.29. His seven shutouts set a new single-season and career record for the Saints.

     Thomas More finished the season 13-6 overall, 3-3 PAC, and fell in the PAC finals. The Saints' semifinal win was the program's first postseason victory.

Thomas More falls in Final

WASHINGTON, PA - Needing just one win to secure the Presidents' Athletic Conference championship and the automatic bid, Thomas More fell behind early in falling to Washington & Jefferson, 2-1, Saturday.

     The Presidents' scored in the 12th and 25th minutes respectively to put pressure on the Saints.

     Junior David Megel (North Vernon, IN/Jennings County) got Thomas More on the board in the 58th minute, but the Saints could muster any more offense.

    W&J outshot Thomas More 16-3 and had five corner kicks to TMC's zero.

     Thomas More ends its season at 13-6, which is the second most wins in school history.

Saints pull Upset

NEW WILMINGTON, PA - Just four days after suffering a 4-0 defeat to Westminster, Thomas More exacted a measure of revenge knocking off the top-seeded Titans, 3-1, in the semifinals of the Presidents' Athletic Conference tournament Wednesday.

     The win - the program's first-ever in postseason - moves Thomas More into the PAC finals at the winner of the Bethany/Washington & Jefferson match.

     It didn't take long for the Saints to get on top as junior Garry Sheahan (East Castle, Ireland/East Castle) scored on a break-away goal 57 seconds into the contest. Sheahan added the game's second goal in the 33rd minute. It was Sheahan's 13th and 14th goals of the season.

     Westminster pulled to within one with a goal in the 41st minute, but sophomore John Wallace (Cincinnati, OH/Clark Montessori) helped Thomas More reclaim its two-goal advantage in the 45th minute. Freshman Aaron Osborne (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) dished out his third assists on the final goal.

     Junior Matt Koopman (Pleasant Hill, OH/Newton) earned the win, making 10 saves.

TMC Ends Regular Season

NEW WILMINGTON, PA - Thomas More ended the regular season in the same place the Saints will start it's postseason, Westminster. The Saints hope the outcome Wednesday will be drastically different as the Titans earned the top seed for the Presidents' Athletic Conference tournament with a 4-0 win over Thomas More.

     Thomas More ended the regular season at 12-5, which is the second most win in program's history.

Loss ends hopes of top Seed

BETHANY, WV - Twenty-three seconds into Thomas More's match with Bethany, the Saints held the lead and were riding high. However, Bethany scored with 1:40 remaining in the contest to lift the Bison to the 3-2 win Wednesday in Presidents' Athletic Conference action. It was BC's second goal of the game near the end of a half.

     The loss ends any chances for Thomas More (12-4 overall, 3-2 PAC) to secure the top seed for next week's PAC tournament. After finishing the regular season with at Westminster Saturday, the two teams will hook up again Wednesday in the PAC semifinals in New Wilmington, PA.

     Freshman Aaron Osborne (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) gave Thomas More the early lead as he scored off a miss shot from junior Garry Sheahan (East Castle, Ireland/East Castle). The score remained 1-0 until the Bison netted the equalizer in the 44th minute, then Bethany took the lead in the 77th minute.

     Osborne appeared to be sending the game to an extra session when he took a feed from sophomore Chris DeZarn (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) in the 84th minute.

TMC earns PAC Tournament Berth

CINCINNATI, OH - Thanks to two goals by freshman Dan Miller (Cincinnati, OH/Elder), and a Grove City loss, the Thomas More qualified for its first-ever Presidents' Athletic Conference tournament Saturday.

     Miller doubled his season goal output as the Saints defeated Waynesburg, 3-0, in Presidents' Athletic Conference action. The game marked the final regular season home match for Nate Thrift (Milford, OH/Milford), Nick Carpinello (Cincinnati, OH/McNicholas), Ben Mollozzi (Hebron/Calvary Christian) and Patrick Randall (Newport/Newport Central Catholic).

     Junior Garry Sheahan (East Castle, Ireland/East Castle) added two assists in the Thomas More victory.

     The Saints took the lead in the 21st minute as Miller deposited a pass from sophomore John Wallace (Cincinnati, OH/Clark Montesorri) in the back of the net.

     Sheahan assisted on both second half goals, one to Miller in the ninth minute, then to sophomore Chris DeZarn (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) in the 36th minute.

     Junior Matt Koopman (Pleasant Hill, OH/Newton) earned his sixth shutout of the season, making three saves.

     Thomas More (12-3 overall, 3-1 PAC) will travel to Bethany Wednesday.

Sheahan nets two in Win

WILDER - Junior Garry Sheahan (East Castle, Irelend/East Castle) scored two second-half goals to lift Thomas More to a 2-0 non-conference win over Geneva Wednesday at Town and Country Sports Complex.

     In the 56th minute, Sheahan received a nice feed from freshman Aaron Osborne (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) to score the game's first goal. Osborne floated the pass over two Golden Tornadoe defenders, and Sheahan did the rest beating the goalkeeper.

    Sheahan did the heavy lifting on the second goal, stealing the ball from the Geneva player, blowing past three defenders before netting the insurance goal in the 84th minute.

     Thomas More outshot GC 16-8, and junior Matt Koopman (Pleasant Hill, OH/Newton) earned the shutout with five saves.

     The Saints improve to 11-3 overall, and will host Waynesburg Saturday in the final home game for the seniors.

Saints fall in OT

LATROBE, PA - Saint Vincent scored just 1:51 seconds into the overtime period to upset Thomas More Sunday, 2-1.

     Thomas More falls to 10-3 overall, while the Bearcats improved to 5-7-3 on the season.

     Freshman Aaron Osborne (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) opened the scoring in the seventh minute on an unassisted goal. However, SVC knotted the game at one in the 29th minute, before winning in overtime.

     The Saints outshot Saint Vincent, 26-23, and junior Matt Koopman (Pleasant Hill, OH/Newton) made seven saves.

     Thomas More will stay away from Presidents' Athletic Conference action with they host PAC-member Geneva Wednesday at Town and Country.

Free Kick lifts Saints

WILDER - Junior Garry Sheahan (East Castle, Ireland/East Castle) scored off a free kick in the 16 minute to give Thomas More a 1-0 win over Grove City Wednesday in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.

     The scoring opportunity was set up off a foul directly outside the box, and the Saints held on for the victory. Freshman Dan Miller (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) assisted on the Sheahan score.

     Thomas More was forced to play the last 15 minutes of the contest down a player due to a red card, but a strong defensive effort limited the Wolverines to two shots. On the game, the Saints were outshot by Grove City, but junior Matt Koopman (Pleasant Hills, OH/Newton) held strong under pressure to make seven saves.

     Thomas More (10-2, 2-1 PAC) will travel to Latrobe, PA Sunday for a non-conference match with PAC-member Saint Vincent.

Saints suffer second loss of season

WASHINGTON, PA - For just the second time this season, the Thomas More men's soccer team was on the losing side of the scoreboard. This time is was Washington & Jefferson posting the 3-1 Presidents' Athletic Conference win over the Saints.

     Junior Garry Sheahan (East Castle, Ireland/East Castle) scored the lone TMC goals, beating the W&J goalkeeper in the 57th minute to pull Thomas More to within 3-1.

     Thomas More (9-1 overall, 2-1 PAC) will host Grove City Wednesday at Town & Country.

Osborne, Sheahan lift Saints

CINCINNATI, OH - Freshman Aaron Osborne (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) and junior Garry Sheahan (East Castle, Ireland/East Castle) scored two goals each as Thomas More defeated Mount St. Joseph, 5-0, in non-conference action Monday at Schueler Field.

     The Saints scored four goals in the second half, two by Osborne, to blow open up a close contest. The win marked the sixth win over a Heartland Conference opponent this season for the Saints, and the leaves TMC 2-0-1 all-time against the Lions. Thomas More dominated play unleashing 31 shots, 14 of which were on goal.

     Sheahan, who missed the last three games due to injury, quickly made his presence felt. The junior forward scored within two minutes of his entry to give the Saints the 1-0 lead in the 34th minute. He added the first goal of the second half to give TMC the 2-0 advantage in the 57th minute. Freshman Dan Miller (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) was credited with the assist.

     Osborne took over from there, scoring unassisted goals in the 62nd and 77th minutes, respectively. The second goal came off the rebound of a missed shot.

     Miller wrapped up the scoring with a goal in the 88th minute.

     Junior Matt Koopman (Pleasant Hill, OH/Newton) made four saves in posting his ninth victory of the season.

     Thomas More (9-1) will return to Presidents' Athletic Conference action Saturday 11 a.m. at Washington & Jefferson.
