Arnzen earns first Team Honors

WEST MIDDLESEX, PA - Sophomore Marty Arnzen (Ft. Thomas/Highlands) earned first team PAC honors as Thomas More earned its highest PAC finish in men's golf - placing second in the 2008 championships. Freshman Jacob Bowman (Latonia/Holy Cross) earned second team honors.

     The 2008 team title was determined by eight rounds for men; 36 holes at W&J in the fall, 18 holes at both Waynesburg and Saint Vincent in the spring, plus the championship which is double-weighted.

     Arnzen placed sixth with a combined score of 454 after shooting a two-day total of 149 in the championships, while Bowman finished tied for 12th with a combined total of 471. He shot a 80-77-157 in the championships.

     Sophomore Joe Ruzick (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) was 15th with a score of 475, and a championships score of 155. Freshman Kyle Hoover (Florence/Boone County) carded a 491, 82-81-163 in the championships, while freshman Brandon Dulle (Cincinnati, OH/St. Xavier) finished tied for 21st with a 495; 82-81-163 in the championships.

TMC finishes Fourth

LATROBE, PA - In what could amount as a preview to the upcoming Presidents' Athletic Conference Golf Championships, Thomas More acquitted itself quite well - placing fourth in the Saint Vincent Invitational.

    TMC was second - eight strokes behind defending PAC champion Washington & Jefferson - of the seven PAC schools in the field.

    Sophomore Marty Arnzen (Ft. Thomas/Highlands) and freshman Kyle Hoover (Florence/Boone County) finished 11th with a round of 78. Freshman Jacob Bowman (Latonia/Holy Cross) carded a 81, good for 19th, while freshman Brandon Dulle (Cincinnati, OH/St. Xavier) carded a 82 for 25th place. Sophomore Joe Ruzick (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) was 52nd with a 87.

    Thomas More will compete in the PAC championships on Monday and Tuesday in Wexford, PA.

Saints, Arnzen finish Third

WAYNESBURG, PA - Sophomore Marty Arnzen (Ft. Thomas/Highlands) finished third - two strokes off the lead - as Thomas More placed third of eight schools in the Waynesburg Invitational. The meet could have served as precursor to what's in store for the Presidents' Athletic Conference meet later in the season as only Geneva was missing from the Invitational.

      Arnzen finished the 18-hole event seven-over par with a 39-40-79, while freshman Jacob Bowman (Latonia/Holy Cross) and freshman Brandon Dulle (Cincinnati, OH/Saint Xavier) both shot an 82. Bowman shot a 43 on the front and 39 on the back, while Dulle carded a 46 on the front and 36 on the back. The 36 for Dulle was the lowest nine-hole score for the entire tournament.

     Sophomore Joe Ruzick (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) carded a 42-46-88, and junior David Clifford (Tececula, CA/Temecula Valley) wrapped up the Thomas More contigent with a 47-49-96.

     Thomas More will travel to Stone Mountain, GA April 6 for the Emory Invitational.

Moving up

After a successful fall campaign, the Thomas More men's golf team moved up six spots in the most recent Golf Stat W/L rankings.

     The Saints moved up to 87 in the rankings. It marks a significant improvement over previous years, where TMC was found in the mid 100's.

     Several golfers turned in quality fall season, and Thomas More was led by sophomores Marty Arnzen (Ft. Thomas/Highlands) and Joe Ruzick (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle). The duo earned the only all-tournament team laurels, placing fourth in the DePauw Small College Classic, and finished the season with the lowest round averages.

Saints place Fifth

WASHINGTON, PA - Sophomore Marty Arnzen (Ft. Thomas/Highlands) placed ninth overall at the W&J Fall Invitational as Thomas More placed fifth in the 10-team event. The Saints placed ahead of five Presidents' Athletic Conference teams.(stats)

     Arnzen finished the event with a 80-78-158, and was followed by freshman Jacob Bowman (Latonia/Holy Cross) - who carded a 83-76-159 to placed 16th. Sophomore Joe Ruzick (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) finished with a 87-78-165, while freshman Brandon Dulle carded a 87-81-168. Freshman Kyle Hoover (Florence/Boone County) rounded out the TMC contingent with a 93-85-178.

Arnzen, Ruzick named All-Tourney Team

GREENCASTLE, IN - Sophomore's Marty Arnzen (Ft. Thomas/Highlands) and Joe Ruzick (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) earned All-tournament team laurels at the DePauw Small College Classic, placing tied for fourth. As a team, the Saints finished third of nine teams.

     Three players - Ruzick, freshman Kyle Hoover (Florence/Boone County) and freshman Brandon Dulle - all carded season-lows in the first round with 72, 76 and 76, repectively.

     Ruzick added a 78 on day two to finish at 148, while Arnzen carded a 75-73-148.

     Hoover shot 78 on day two for a 154 to finish 17th overall, while Dulle added a day two score of 81 for 157 - good for 157. Freshman Jacob Bowman (Latonia/Holy Cross) finished the tournament with 82-76-158.

Saints finish 14th

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Thomas More finished 14th, ahead of three Division I schools, out of 18 teams this past weekend at the Rutgers Men's Golf Invitational. (stats)

     Sophomore Marty Arnzen (Ft. Thomas/Highlands) finished 24th with a 75-74-74-223, just 14 strokes off the lead. Sophomore Joe Ruzick (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) finished the three-round event with a 73-73-78-224.

     Freshman Brandon Dulle carded a 84-80-77-241, while freshman Jacob Bowman (Latonia/Holy Cross) finished with a 77-79-86-242. Freshman Kyle Hoover (Florence/Boone County) rounded out the scoring with 1 82-80-81-243.

     Thomas More will return to action October 13 at the DePauw Small College Invitational.

TMC fourth at Centre

DANVILLE - Sophomore Marty Arnzen (Ft. Thomas/Highlands) shot the lowest round of the season for a Thomas More golfer to help the Saints to a fourth place finish in the Jim English Classic hosted by Centre College. (stats)

     Arnzen shot a 36 on the front and 37 on the back to card a 73. Freshman Jacob Bowman (Latonia/Holy Cross) was one stroke behind with a 38-36-74, while freshman Kyle Hoover (Florence/Boone County) carded a career-low 41-36-77. Sophomore Joe Ruzick (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) finished the 18-hole event with a 40-38-78 and freshman Brandon Dulle carded a 42-41-83.

     Thomas More returns to the course starting Thursday at the Rutgers Fall Classic.

Saints start season at Transy

LEXINGTON - Thomas More opened the fall portion of its season by placing ninth in the 10-team Transylvania Fall Classic. (stats)

     Sophomore Joe Ruzick (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) and freshman Jacob Bowman (Latonia/Holy Cross) led the Saints with two-day totals of 161 as the Saints finished with 647, just five strokes from seventh place. Ruzick used a 80 in day one and 81 in the second day, while Bowman carded an 82 and 79 for his total.

     Freshman Brandon Dulle turned in the best round of day one, leading Thomas More with a 79. However, Dulle carded a 84 on the second day to finish at 163. Freshman Kyle Hoover (Florence/Boone County) finished the 36-hole event with a 88-79-167, while sophomore Marty Arnzen (Ft. Thomas/Highlands) wrapped up his tournament with a 89-79-168.
