Fishburn Named an Academic All-American
(TOWSON, Md.) - Thomas More College junior shortstop Chris Fishburn (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) has been selected to the 2009 ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-America baseball team. He was a college division third team selection.
Fishburn, a sports and entertainment marketing major, carries a cumulative 3.98 grade point average and is the first Thomas More baseball player to be named an Academic All-American since Noah Welte in 2005. He has been named to the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Academic Honor Roll three times and has been named All-PAC twice.
Fishburn, led the team with a .385 batting average in 35 games this season with 50 base hits in 130 at-bats with a team-high 44 runs scored and 13 doubles, four home runs, two triples, 31 runs batted-in and four stolen bases. He was also hit-by-pitch seven times and had a .608 slugging percentage, .443 on-base average and a .887 fielding average.
After three seasons at Thomas More, Fishburn is batting .343 with 142 base hits in 414 at-bats with 107 runs scored, 23 doubles, five home runs, three triples, 73 RBI and 25 stolen bases.
In order to be named an Academic All-American, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his current institution and be nominated by his sports information director. The College Division includes all NCAA Division II, III and NAIA institutions. Members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American committee select the squads.
