Five Baseball Players named All-PAC

(WEXFORD, Pa.) - Five Thomas More College baseball student-athletes were named to the 2009 All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Baseball teams selected by the conference’s nine head coaches.

Sophomore designated hitter Spencer Franzreb (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) and freshman pitcher Paul Uhl (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) were both named to the first team.  Franzreb was second on the team with a .379 batting average as he was 47-for-125 with a team-high 10 home runs, seven doubles, one triple and 37 runs batted-in.  Uhl was second on the team with a 3.49 earned run average as he pitched 49 innings and gave up 23 runs (19 earned) on 42 hits and struck out a team-high 37 batters.

Three Saints were named to the second as freshman first baseman Andrew Thole (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas), sophomore second baseman Sam Schmeltzer (Aurora, Ind./South Dearborn) and junior shortstop Chris Fishburn (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) were all named to the team.  Thole was fourth on the team in batting with a .363 as he was 58-for-160 with nine home runs, nine doubles and a team-high 49 RBI and recorded 301 putouts at first base.  Schmeltzer was third on the team in batting with a .372 average as he was 51-for-137 with a team-high three triples, 12 doubles, three home runs and 78 RBI.  Fishburn led the team in batting with a .385 average as he was 50-for-130 with a team-high 13 doubles and 44 runs scored and had four home runs, two triples and 31 RBI.

Thomas More, 28-12-1 with a 12-6 PAC record, finished the season with 20 or more wins for the seventh straight season and advanced to the four-team PAC Baseball Championship Tournament for the fourth time in as many years it has been a member of the PAC.
