Our professors are involved both inside and outside the classrooms. They are advisors for student organizations; they attend athletics events and other activities on campus and in the community. Thomas More also has a select group of adjunct faculty who are able to bring professional experience into the classroom, enabling many opportunities for networking and internships.

How many courses do freshman typically take?
This varies depending on the student. Generally, full-time students take between four and six courses each semester. That equals to between 12 and 18 hours per week. On average, students take 15 credit hours or five classes. Entering freshmen are encouraged to discuss their course loads with their academic advisor who will guide them through the registration process.

What religious opportunities are available to students?
Thomas More is a Catholic college, affiliated with the Diocese of Covington. There are many opportunities both on and off campus for students to worship. There is a daily mass in the Thomas More chapel, as well as Sunday evening services. There is a Christian-based student organization on campus called More Ministry that offers a variety of programs, religious services, and service opportunities available will help students explore the spiritual aspects of life and help them connect or re-connect with God. The office of Campus Ministry is ecumenical and helps students explore the similarities and differences of the many religious denominations represented at Thomas More College. Because the Cincinnati area is so culturally diverse, there are opportunities for any kind of religious worship. For students who are not Catholic, there are a variety of churches, synagogues, and mosques in the area, catering to any religious need.

How are students advised academically?
All students are paired with a personal academic advisor in their area of study. All entering freshmen are required to take the First-Year Seminar (FYS). The FYS professor will be the first academic advisor for Thomas More students. This allows the advisor to get to know the student's abilities and/or unique challenges, making the transition from high school to college smooth and stress-free. Academic advisors help students schedule classes, find internship/co-op opportunities, and serve as a liaison if the student has any academic issues that need to be dealt with.

Many departments also have student mentors. Freshmen and sophomores are often paired up with a junior or senior in his or her area of study. These peer mentors help prepare the students for the caliber of work expected in that discipline. It is also important for entering students to find guidance from their peers who have been through some of the same classes and have encountered similar experiences that your son or daughter may face.

What kind of technology is available on campus?
There are six different computer labs on campus, including a state of the art lab for Computer Information Systems majors. The number of labs means that students have plenty of access to computers from multiple locations on campus. Also, the campus is wireless, which enables students to connect to the network from virtually any spot on campus.

Recently, in 2006, our newly-renovated library and art gallery was unveiled with new computer facilities, smart classrooms, and movable stacks for better use of space. We are also in the midst of a $2.5 million science building renovation that will result in the purchase of new lab equipment and the renovation of the science laboratories and classrooms. On top of that, our Biology Field Station (located on the Ohio River) offers a one-of-a-kind center for applied biological research. Thomas More also has the new Bank of Kentucky Observatory which provides students and faculty with the opportunity to do astronomical studies and research without leaving campus.

What kinds of exercise facilities are available for students?
Thomas More College students have access to Five Seasons Country Club, located next to campus. Students have access to: 16 Tennis Courts (Indoor, Outdoor and Clay Courts), 1 Racquetball Court, Indoor/Outdoor Basketball Courts, Indoor Pool, Whirlpool/Jacuzzi, Steam/Sauna rooms, Indoor/Outdoor Volleyball, Indoor track, fitness studio, and luxurious locker rooms. Students also have access to athletic facilities in the Connor Convocation Center on campus including weight rooms and an indoor track.

How important is it to chose a major right away?
Many of our first semester freshmen are undecided, and that's fine. Part of the FYS experience is figuring out what interests your son or daughter, what learning style works best, and what career best suits his/her personality. Your student's FYS instructor is also his or her advisor and can help your student pick the major that fits. While having a specific major is critical for some technical career fields, many employers know that any liberal arts major gives students a good foundation in communicating and critical thinking - important skills in any job. The average American worker will change jobs several times and even career fields several times over the course of one's career.

The "best" major is one that your student enjoys and will stick with and graduate. Recent U.S. Census data show that college grads (on average) earn more than a million dollars more than noncollege grads.
