Gus Powers is graduating in May with a B.S. degree in Chemistry and A.A. degrees in both Mathematics and Physics. He has performed two research projects at Thomas More: one studied green chemical reactions without the use of solvent whereas the other dealt with creating ligands for metal recovery from wastewater. Gus has also maintained the position of tutor for the Math & Physics Tutoring Center for 5 semesters. He has been an active member of the Chemistry and Math & Physics Clubs, as well as being the Executive Vice President of the Student Activities Board for the 2010-2011academic year. He worked at the Environmental Protection Agency in the summer of 2009 as a Physical Science Aid. In the summer of 2010, he did work-study in the Office of Admissions as a Student Ambassador. Last summer, Gus went to West Virginia University to participate in a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in Nanomaterials. He has accepted an offer to study in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Cincinnati for the PhD program in Chemistry starting in August of 2012.
