Julie Luebbers began teaching at Thomas More in 1998 and currently teaches in the Foreign Language and Education departments. She leads a medical brigade service trip for Thomas More students every other year to Nicaragua and she runs a non-profit called TEN FE; which helps send poor and underprivileged kids to school in Guatemala. In Nicaragua, she leads students on a week-long visit to poor and rural communities outside of Granada where the students set up a pharmacy, aid doctors in treating sick patients, and deliver food and medicines to sick and immobile poor Nicaraguans. Students are exposed to Nicaraguan culture and traditions by living with upper-class Nicaraguan families for the week and by visiting famous Nicaraguan attractions; such as, Lake Nicaragua and Las Isletas, Pacaya and Mombaso volcanos, and ziplining through a volcanic coffee plantation. Dr. Luebbers has also taken many students to Santiago, Guatemala over the past few years to help serve the kids of her non-profit, TEN FE. There are currently 39 TEN FE students, and her aim is to build a grade school in Santiago that will educate these 39 kids and many more underprivileged children and orphans in town. For more information on TEN FE or how you can help, please visit the website, In her free time, she enjoys being with her three daughters, running, and reading.
